General provisions of the Austrian and Egyptian commercial laws: a concept-based, terminological comparison between German and Arabic published by AV Akademikerverlag
Abstract:
This thesis analyses the terminology used in the general provisions of the commercial law in the Austrian and the Egyptian legal system. The commercial law is constantly gaining importance due to the growing economic and commercial cooperation between German-speaking and Arabic countries. Furthermore, it is of current interest as both countries’ commercial laws have recently been amended. The results obtained from the terminological analysis are presented in a concept-based database created in SDL Multiterm 2009. It is preceded by a detailed description of the characteristics of this field’s terminology as well as a comparison of the Austrian and the Egyptian concept systems and their equivalence relations. The analysis has been carried out under the premise that complete equivalence can hardly be achieved due to the different legal systems. The attention is therefore drawn to the description of differences and similarities in the essential characteristics of the analysed concepts. The thesis aims at terminologically analysing the general part of the commercial law for Egyptian Arabic and Austrian German and therefore providing a helpful overview for translators and interpreters as well as other people working in the field of commercial law and business administration. It also represents a useful starting point for further research within the field of commercial matters.
